NOMINATION/APPLICATION FORM
The completion and submittal of this form constitutes the formal nomination and application of a property to the Virginia Beach Historical Register. Complete applications will be forwarded to the City’s Historical Review Board for consideration. Written notification of the Board’s action will be provided to the applicant from the Department of Planning.
Please type and use 8 ˝” x 11" paper if additional space is needed. Contact the Virginia Beach Historic Preservation Office at (757) 431-4000 for information about receiving this form in a word processing format.
All submitted materials become the property of the City of Virginia Beach.
Basic Standards of Qualification for the Historical Register
a). The property’s association with significant events in the history and development of the City.
b). The property’s association with persons who have made important contributions to the history of the City.
c). The extent to which the property embodies principal or distinctive features of an architectural style that represents a specific period in the history of the City.
d). Whether the property has yielded or is likely to yield artifacts and other materials important to understanding the City’s historical background and context.
e). The age of the property, which shall, absent exceptional historic value, be no less than fifty (50) years.

5). GENERAL ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION
Representative architectural style, number of stories, unusual architectural features, additions, remodelings, and any features not apparent or readily visible in photographs.
6). HISTORY
Briefly note any significant uses, events, personages and/or families associated with the property. Please do not provide detailed family genealogies. When possible, please note documentary source of information.
7). PHOTOGRAPHS
Four Interior and Four Exterior Black and White Photographs must be submitted! Interior photographs should illustrate important architectural features. Where possible, exterior photographs should illustrate each facade. Close up views of exterior architectural features, such as dentil moldings, are also desirable. Where outbuildings are present, include some photographs of these structures. Please provide a descriptive label on the back of each photograph. Applications that do not include photographs will not be considered.

Please include a map indicating the location of the property. A sketch map is acceptable if street names and route numbers are included. Please include a directional arrow for North. A narrative description may be added to the map to provide additional specific details about the property’s location.
