Society Local History programs

Over the years, the Society has sponsored historical programs in various sections of the City where community members are encouraged to participate in learning and sharing their memories and knowledge of local history.  Some of the programs have included:

The Boardwalk History Fair - April 28, 2007  -  Part of the 400th Anniversary of the First Landing at Cape Henry - a 1 day festival on the boardwalk celebrating 400 years of local history!!

The 40th Anniversary PAC/VBHS Banquet - October 17, 2001:  Banquet at Virginia Wesleyan College to celebrate the founding of the Historical Society

The Centennial Anniversary of  The Munden Point Rail Line - March 29, 1998

Ocean Park Community History - October 17, 2002 :  In the year of the 100 Anniversary of the construction of the rail line from Willoby to Cape Henry passing through the Ocean Park Community

Records Preservation Program at Virginia Wesleyan Library - October 27, 2002:  Part of the Community Roots Project

Research into the History of Thalia - June 2, 2002:  Guest Speaker Deni Norred-Williams on her up-coming book about the Thalia area.
