It traces the history of the Princess Anne County and Virginia Beach, from the time Englishmen landed here enroute to establish Jamestown, to the present. Brief descriptions of the contributions made by many citizens bring a personal element to this outstanding book.

Dr. Mansfield is currently Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at Virginia Wesleyan, Stephen Mansfield received his Ph. D. from the University of Virginia in 1968 and moved to Hampton Roads to join the Virginia Wesleyan College history faculty. For twenty years he researched the history of the area and was instrumental in establishing Virginia Wesleyan’s Local History Collection, of which he is curator. He is member of the Board of Governors and past president of the Princess Anne County/Virginia Beach Historical Society.

This 237-page paperback book is a reprint of the fully illustrated edition first printed in 1931and again in 1958.  It  includes photos and descriptions of houses still standing in Princess Anne County in 1931 and built prior to 1800 in Princess Anne County Virginia.
