Princess
Anne County / Virginia Beach Historical Society
Community Roots Project
We need your help as the Historical Society moves forward with one of the most encompassing projects it has ever undertaken. We are encouraging all neighborhoods, schools, businesses, religious organizations, civic leagues, garden clubs, individuals, students and other groups in Virginia Beach to send us a brief history. We hope to collect information to provide a resource for our city and also hope this effort will encourage others to get involved in preservation of our local history!
We are also encouraging individuals to send us oral histories, family histories, local lore and copies of photos to share!
We encourage you to send
us -
your stories, your recollections
of our city - even some of our recent history.
by MAIL or
Email
If you are unsure of what to include - consider sharing a one or two page account: the when, where, how and why of how a group came to be, and perhaps an anecdote or two of life and history in Virginia Beach. And if you would like to include a digital photo (.jpg etc.) or regular photo (we will return your original) that would be great!
If you wish to participate, please copy, complete and mail or fax to us THE COMMUNITY ROOTS LOCAL HISTORY FORM and become a participant in this community-wide effort to collect and preserve the history of our city!
If you want to use a more detailed form, you can complete the ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY FORM
Or Email us a letter! When emailing, please include along with your histories and information - your name, and a mailing address, phone number. If you are representing a group please inlude the group's name, address, phone number, as well as your own name, etc.. If your organization has a website that would like to to linked to our website and this project, also include the web address.
Also, please be aware that some of these stories may be published and by submitting them you will be giving your permission for their publication.
We hope you will join with us and help us spread the enthusiam to
all the groups of which you are a part and share your story.
