The Princess Anne County/Virginia Beach Historical Society has three primary aims:
Education: to increase
public awareness and stimulates interest in the history of our
City through an active public programming initiative.
Programs and Events are
regularly scheduled throughout the City and at Upper
Wolfsnare.
Preservation: to involve the citizens of Virginia
Beach in the preservation and restoration of historic
properties. It is a leader of the
Preservation
Partnership, a public-private initiative that is
working to acquire, repair and resell historic properties in
order to assure their continued presence in the fabric of our
City’s architecture.
Interpretation: The Society develops programs that
interpret our community’s heritage and the stewardship of
historic resources. Upper
Wolfsnare, the 18th Century home owned by the Society,
serves as the stage for its interpretive programs and
activities. The home is open Wednesdays from noon to 4 P.M. in
July and August for public tours.
Members of the Princess Anne County/ Virginia Beach Historical Society meet several times during the year for specially scheduled program events. These programs, currently coordinated by Program Director and Historian, Dr. Steven Mansfield, are held either at Upper Wolfsnare or at another location or historic site related to the specific program and speaker. Upcoming events are usually announced in the newsletter and/or by special mailing. All current and prospective members are welcome to attend! Visit our online Photo galleries and Events page for information on past Society sponsored programs.
