Historic Plantation Tea Society
Contributed by Constance Lue
We are the Historic Plantation Tea Society of Virginia Beach, VA. This society was established in May of 2001 with our first class of 9 who are now our charter members. There have been 7 classes up to now. I am the teacher of "Let's Have A Tea Party" Classes through the Adult Learning Center... Belinda Nash suggested that we have our classes at the Historic Ferry Plantation House on Cheswick Lane in the Pembroke Meadows area. The classes have been so popular that our student-adults- have formed this society to promote Teas, for the are of gracious living, civility, and also to continue these values through future generations. In the meanwhile, history of this great plantation and the Lynnhaven area is being shared with children as well. Our society, under the Director, Dr. Elizabeth Buchanan and me, has undertaken children's teas- "Mad Hatter", and raised a tidy sum for restoration of Ferry House.
This site lends itself for events like ours and because of Belinda Nash and our "Tea Ladies" who also volunteer for Ferry -the house is alive again. (Laughter and conversation can be heard during classes). We enjoy being a part of the effort to restore Ferry House, having others enjoy the art of gracious living and the opportunity to learn of our area's history.
